Get ready for Beyonce in 2013: She’s performing halftime at the Superbowl; she’s producing a documentary about her life that will air on HBO February 16th; and she has just signed on as the new spokesperson for Pepsi. The $50 million Pepsi deal was announced this week and includes Beyonce's picture on Pepsi cans with the soda giant sponsoring all her major events.
The 55th Annual Grammy Awards are happening February 10th on CBS. Nominees include Melanie Fiona, Frank Ocean, Anthony Hamilton, R Kelly, Miguel, Rihanna, Dave Koz, Estelle, Usher, Anita Baker, SWV, Tamia, Beyonce, Tyrese and John Legend.
Charges will not be filed against Halle Berry's babydaddy Model Gabriel Aubry. Police had already determined he was the instigator in the confrontation with Berry's fiance Actor Oliver Martinez on Thanksgiving morning. Despite that, Martinez whipped Aubry to a pulp. Lawyers for the three got together with officials to avoid criminal charges, which all three agreed they don't want. Look for possible community service or counseling to come from this.
The 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will air on HBO May 18th. This year's inductees include Donna Summer, Public Enemy, Heart, Rush, and special honors going to Quincy Jones and Producer Lou Adler. Summer, whose induction her fans had long called for, died in May from lung cancer. On Sunday she is going to be honored on VH1's Divas Live along with the late Whitney Houston. Adam Lambert is hosting. Divas Live airs on Sunday, December 16th at 9pm on VH1.
The 44th Annual NAACP Image Award nominees have also been announced. The movies Flight, Django Unchained, Beasts Of The Southern Wild, Red Tails and Good Deeds have all been nominated for Best Picture. Steve Harvey's wildly successful Think Like A Man got only one nomination for Best Supporting Actress: Taraji P. Henson. Jamie Foxx and Denzel Washington got nominations as well as the reality show X-Factor. The hit ABC drama Scandal got nominations as well as the Lifetime TV movie Steel Magnolias with Queen Latifah and Jill Scott. Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars led the way with the music nominations. Locally, Trombonist Jeff Bradshaw got a nomination for Best Jazz Album for his latest CD Bone Appetit. Local Author Jim Smith, Jr. (Mr. Energy) got a literature nod for his book The No Excuse Guide To Success No Matter What Your Boss Or Life Throws At You.
Nominations were also announced for the SAG Awards (The Screen Actors Guild Awards). Quentin Tarantino's critically acclaimed Django Unchained didn’t make the cut because it wasn’t previewed in time. The movies up for Best Picture include Les Miserables, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook. Denzel Washington was nominated for his role in Flight and Alfre Woodard for her role in Lifetime's Steel Magnolias.
Is the gospel duo Mary Mary breaking up? NO! But, the sister team, who have been together 12 years, will be talking a brief hiatus to focus on other career endeavors and their very large families. Mary Mary's hit reality show airs Thursdays at 10pm on the WE network.
How real is the reality show The Real Housewives Of Atlanta? Well, according to Kenya Moore's boyfriend on the show, Walter Jackson, he says he was paid to be Kenya's boyfriend on the show. Jackson says it was a set up. They only dated three months, and they never had sex. He says he did it for publicity…. his 15 minutes of fame! Jackson realized he was in over his head when the producers of the show started pressuring him to marry Moore, who comes across as a desperate, single woman on the show. Jackson realized he couldn’t do it. Execs at the Bravo network are not happy with Jackson's public revelations. Meanwhile, Moore released a statement calling Jackson actions deceitful and hateful. Friends of Moore say she is very embarrassed.
Former Basketball Superstar Dennis Rodman owes a half million dollars in back child support. He faces jail time if he doesn’t pay up for his two pre-teen kids.
Another Elmo accuser..... NO WAY! Yes, another young man has come forward claiming he had a relationship with Elmo Creator and former Sesame Street Performer/Producer Kevin Clash. This is the fourth accuser. Accuser number 4 says he was involved with Clash years ago when he was 16 and Clash was in his 30’s. Accuser number 4 says he is suing Clash for emotional distress. Clash resigned his position from Sesame Street citing the earlier accusations as a distraction.
Is Soledad O’Brien being moved out of mornings on the CNN network? Sources say new boss, CNN President Jeff Zucker, is eying Erin Burnett for a new morning show. What does this mean for O’Brien and her show Starting Point? She has been hailed for her documentaries (Black In America) on the network.
Terrell Owens has got a job. Owens had been hoping to get back in the NFL, but that didn’t happen. Owens has joined the reality show Stars In Danger: The High Dive. The show debuts Wednesday, January 9th on FOX.
Just in time for the Easter holiday 2013, it’s the latest big screen project from Tyler Perry. Temptation: Confessions Of A Marriage Counselor stars Jurnee Smollett Bell, Lance Gross, Vanessa Williams, Brandy and Kim Kardashian. The movie opens March 29th.
Media Mogul Byron Allen has launched a legal themed-digital cable network. Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios recently kicked off Justice Central TV.
Congrats to Rapper Eve and her billionaire race car driver boyfriend, Maximilian Cooper. They are expecting their first child. Eve is also releasing a new album next spring.
Get well to Singer Damon Harris who used to sing with the Temptations. Harris, 62, is battling prostate cancer. Harris recently had a story appear online calling his situation dire, but he has since reached out to friends to confirm he's doing fine. Harris has been battling cancer for more than a decade. He says he continues to push forward and is feeling stronger. Harris joined the Temps in 1971 replacing Eddie Kendricks.
Singer Toni Braxton had to be hospitalized over the weekend. Braxton was diagnosed with lupus two years ago, and she was having a problem with blood clots.
Allen Iverson has saved his Atlanta home from foreclosure. Iverson says it’s his wife's fault that the home went into foreclosure. Iverson is going through a nasty divorce with his wife Tawanna. Iverson says Tawanna let their home go into foreclosure out of spite. He says she agreed to financial terms on the home he couldn’t meet. Iverson is currently playing ball in China. He filed legal docs to stop the foreclosure.
Friends of Comedian/Actor Katt Williams are wondering how they can get him help and keep him out of jail. First off, he has to admit he has a problem. Is it drugs? Does he have mental issues? The past few weeks Williams has been arrested, led police on wild chases, slapped a worker at Target, hit a man with a pool cue, hit another man with a microphone, retired from stand up comedy, came back out of retirement, threatened a club manager and threw chairs at fans. Whew! What is going on with him, and is it too late to get him help?

Comedian/Actor Chris Tucker, who is featured in the movie Silver Linings Playbook, is preparing for his Guess Who's Back stand up comedy tour. Tucker plans on hitting the road extensively in 2013.
After 30 years, Actress Cicely Tyson is returning to Broadway. She makes her return next April in the production The Trip To Bountiful. Tyson plays an elderly woman who returns to her small Texas town.
I had a chance to catch up with Actor Morris Chestnut. Chestnut is best known for his roles in the movies Boyz In The Hood, The Brothers and The Best Man. Chestnut is the executive producer and host of the new docu-series Vindicated, which airs on BET Tuesday nights at 10:30pm. Chestnut teams up with the Innocence Project, an organization dedicated to exonerating men and women who were wrongfully convicted. Next year, look for Chestnut on both the TV and silver screens. He has been added to the cast of the Showtime drama Nurse Jackie, and he is co-starring as Halle Berry's love interest in the movie The Hive. Chestnut also confirmed to me that he will be in the sequel to The Best Man.
Actress Regina King is going to be all over your TV in 2013. Season five of her TNT drama Southland returns February 13th, and she is joining the cast of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory.
The 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors airs on CBS December 26th. Honorees include Buddy Guy, Dustin Hoffman and David Letterman.
Kevin Hart's BET show, Real Husbands Of Hollywood, has been moved up to the beginning of the year. The comedy/improv-reality show takeoff debuts January 15th on BET. Real Husbands features a who’s who of stars including Robin Thicke, Boris Kodjoe, Nick Cannon, Nelly, Duane Martin, Faizon Love, JB Smoove and Anthony Anderson, just to name a few.

Come See About Me: The Mary Wilson-Supremes Collection kicks off in January at the African American Museum. The collection will be on display from January 25th until June 22nd,

The new season of American Idol kicks off January 16th on FOX, and it looks like new Judge Nicki Minaj will be the mean one, the new Simon Cowell. The new season should be interesting with fellow Judges Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Host Ryan Seacrest.
December is going to be a big month for Jamie Foxx. His new movie, Django Unchained with Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson, opens Christmas Day. And, check out Foxx on the latest editions of Vibe (with Kerry Washington and Leonardo DiCaprio), Men's Health magazine and Upscale magazine. Foxx also confirmed he will play the villain “Electro” in the new Spiderman movie, and he's appearing on Next Chapter with Oprah Winfrey. Oprah and Jamie's
interview will air December 16th on OWN.
Season 2 of the NBC show Smash kicks off Tuesday, February 5th. Jennifer Hudson and Sheryl Lee Ralph will be featured in the second season. Wait until you see Jennifer Hudson. She looks and sounds amazing. Sheryl Lee Ralph has also been added to the cast of the Instant Mom. The show will star Tia Mowry (The Game, Tia & Tamera) and Duane Martin (All Of Us) and will air on Nick At Nite.
